Invite friends by searching their name or email from the group dashboard. You can also generate a share link — anyone with the link can join your group instantly.
Use the Traccar Client app (Android/iOS) for background GPS reporting. Set the server URL to your BuddyTracker instance and use your device token as the identifier. The device will report positions automatically.
Pair a Meshtastic LoRa radio with the BuddyTracker app. The phone bridges mesh positions to the server, letting off-grid buddies appear on the online map. No internet is needed on the mesh radio side.

This service is not a substitute for emergency communication devices (PLBs, satellite messengers). Do not rely on BuddyTracker for safety-critical decisions. Always carry appropriate safety equipment for your activity.
Position accuracy depends on GPS hardware, signal conditions, and transmission method. Positions may be delayed, inaccurate, or unavailable. Off-grid (Meshtastic) positions have lower precision and higher latency than cellular GPS.
You are responsible for your own safety and navigation. Sharing your location is voluntary. Ensure all group members consent to being tracked before adding their devices.
Position data is stored on the server to provide history and session playback. Data is associated with your account and the groups you belong to. We do not sell or share position data with third parties. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time via account settings or by contacting us.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time. Features and availability may change without notice.

Register your phone or tracker to start sharing location
1. Register a device — click "+ Register Device" above and give it a name. You'll get a device token (UUID).
2. Create a group — click "+ Create Group" to make a tracking group.
3. Add your device — expand the group and click "+ Device" to add your registered device with a display name and color.
4. Open the map — click the group name to open the live map and see real-time positions.

Invite members: Click "Invite" on a group to send an email invitation. If they already have an account, they'll see it on their dashboard.
Share a join link: Click "Link" to get a shareable URL. Anyone who opens it and signs in will join the group automatically.
Manage devices: Each member adds their own devices to the group. Group owners and admins can remove any device; members can only remove their own.
Roles:
Real-time tracking: Positions update live via WebSocket — no need to refresh.
Trail history: Use the dropdown to show trails from the last 10 minutes up to 3 days, or set a custom time range.
Follow mode: Click the crosshair icon next to a buddy to lock the map on their position as they move.
Points of Interest: Click "Add POI" then tap the map to drop a named marker (campsite, trailhead, meetup point, etc.).
Device visibility: Use the checkbox next to each buddy to show or hide them on the map.
Orientation modes: The map can rotate to match device heading for navigation use.
The BuddyTracker Android app can relay positions from a Meshtastic mesh radio network to the server.
